The Paignton to Dartmouth Steam Railway offers a unique opportunity to enjoy a leisurely trip from
the past with a steam train journey to Kingswear and a river ferry across the "Dart" to the historic
naval port of Dartmouth. The views from the train are breathtaking and the route passes over several
bridges designed and constructed by Isobard Kingdom Brunel.
Dartmouth, the home of the Britannia Naval College, has three castles, Bayards Cove, the departure
point for the Pilgrim Fathers, and anchor points (Warfleet Creek) where the English fleets for the
crusades, the battles against the "Spanish Armada", and the Napolionic Wars gathered.
It is possible to purchase a "Round Robin" ticket which offers: a train/ferry to Dartmouth; a pleasure
boat ride up the Dart to Totnes; a coach ride back to Paignton. There is time to explore both towns.

The historic fishing port of Brixham has been the home to the industry for over 1000 years and
operates one of England's biggest fleets. Visitors can observe the boats and fishermen going about
their business, and watch the historic vessels and modern boats that operate from the quays.
Above Brixham stands Berry Head, a National Nature Reserve and Torbay's most important wildlife
site. Berry Head has been fortified since the Iron Ages and the present remains show the layout of
the Napoleonic fort. The lighthouse is both, the highest above sea-level, and the shortest.

Torquay's harbour is uniquely part of the town's shopping centre, and is surrounded by shops,
bistros, restaurants and galleries. The Fleet Walk shopping mall offers many specialist retail
and refreshment outlets. The "Living Coasts" attraction stands above Beacon Cove.
Torre Abbey is the oldest building in Torquay and now houses many important works of art.
The unique village of Cockington is only a mile off the seafront and here can be seen the many
thatched cottages including the famous blacksmith's forge and the latter addition of the Drum
Inn designed by Luytens. The grounds offer excellent walks and are the home of the open-air
Torbay Proms and the Cockington Craft Studios.
